Review:
Originally published in 1999 and continually in print till now.
This book turned up at exactly the right time after having been lent the Alpha course on DVD. This Thirty-day Practical Introduction to Reading the Bible can be used with the course or on it's own. Each day has a topic e.g. ‘The most important question,’ this was the bible reading Matthew ch 28 v1 - 10. After the reading there is a breakdown on what the scriptures mean and how they relate to us. Nicky Gumbel gives examples of modern people which connect to the daily study. The final part of the daily study is a prayer.
This book really helped me. What I liked was, though it was easy to follow and understand, the information is exactly what you need. The only negative thing I could say about this book was that sometimes the reading stopped in the middle of a verse; but the positives definitely outweighed the negative.
A helpful, interesting book which I would recommend to anyone who doesn't know where to start.
