The Scarlet Cord
Conversations With God's Chosen Women
by Lindsay Hardin Freeman & Karen N. Canton
Publisher:O Books imprint of John Hunt Publishing Ltd
With beautiful full colour illustrations by Karen Canton of Eve, Rahab, Sarah, Deborah, Hannah, Ruth, The Shullamite, The Well Woman, Mary, Martha, Mary of Bethany, and Mary Magdelene for you to use as reflective aids, along with the wonderfully imagined or re-imagined stories of these women given voice and word and emotion by Lindsay Freeman, there is here in The Scarlet Cord a wonderful book to use for study or reflection for any woman or better yet for any small group regardless of gender.
At the end of each chapter there is a short consideration of why the character matters today, and then a series of questions on what learnings they could inspire in us. Again these questions are phrased in such a way that they could be used as contemplations and considerations at a deeper level or almost a further meditation as you use these questions whilst looking at the illustration and then focusing inwards.
At the end of the book there is a 'Learn more about section' that is almost like a short commentary, but again with questions raised and elucidated on.
This is both an intelligent and contemplative book that really helps lead one deeper into the Bible through these women called by God, a truly lovely book that, through words and images, calls us to come and consider these women, and in so doing to look deeper into ourselves and what we have in common or could have in common with these women chosen by God.
