Francis Bishop Of Rome

A Short Biography

by Michael Collins

Price: £7.99
Publisher:Columba Press
Published:April 2013

Fr. Michael Collins is a well respected Vatican expert who has previously written a well received biography of the previous Pope. In this short book of 121 pages he provides a well written, engaging and easy to read, quick introduction to Pope Francis. Covering his early years, and with a good synopsis of the background of the Jesuit order, he quickly leads us up to the abdication of Pope Benedict XVI and the election of Jorge Bergoglio and the early days of Pope Francis.

Included in this book are short stories that introduce us to his theology and outlook that enable us to see his driving motivations and possible vision for the Roman Catholic Church as it goes forward. In this book you will also hear the story of how when offered the Red Shoes and other fineries of papal authority, he kept the black shoes and simple silver cross he had long worn as Bishop of Buenos Aires - classic stories now that demonstrate again his heart and commitment. A well told but short book that offers the briefest glimpse of Pope Francis' history, but perfect for anyone who wants to know just a little more.
