This is one of the most beautiful books on the Way of The Cross that I have seen in quite a while. Beautiful, deep and tranquil images by Janet McKenzie combined with Chittister's deeply insightful and quietly reverent words really move this into a must have category of Lent book for me.
Chittester uses four repeating headings for each individual Station - The Experience, The Call, The Model, The Rising - and each one is short but intent, and each one shows a different reflection and contemplation of the station being looked at as we journey into the heart of the story and action of the Crucifixion. What is so beautiful is the way she references to the images by McKenzie, asking us to look at them in detail, to consider them, to reflect upon them and use them as both a mirror to a deeper understanding of the Way of the Cross but also as importantly into the reality of that journey, of the resonances of that experience and moment in our own lives.
This book is a perfect personal companion and devotional aid to our Lenten and holy week journey, but more than that it could also be a great group study too, and would help provide the basis for an intensely moving Holy Week service.
