Review:
This book uses the work Catholic a lot in its introduction but this book is not just for Catholics and that's one of the things the author, an experienced spiritual director, is trying to get over to us - the fact that spirituality is open to all. The disciple's path was walked by ordinary fishermen and people of very ordinary faith, and that faith and path is still open to us all.
This book is a guide on that path and along the journey of discipleship and spirituality. It walks us step by step with those early disciples, using beautiful imagery and insight and giving suggested activities that draw us deeper into the journey we are walking that they too walked. So we look at letting go of that which holds us back, at finding compassion, learning to understand prayer, seeing beyond the obvious, being generous, healing others and ourselves, and in the end trusting God and being more like Jesus. It is a beautiful book designed to be used alone, and I think it would make a perfect retreat guide, and it would also make a wonderful group activity book if you didn't want to walk the disciples path alone...
