Imitating Mary

Ten Marian Virtues for the Modern Mom

by Marge Fenelon

Price: £9.99
Publisher:Ave Maria Press from Alban Bks
Published:April 2013
Imitating Mary is a commendable aspiration. Who better to give mothers a role model?

The subtitle, however, is somewhat misleading as it implies a readership of "Modern Moms", which might put off a sizeable potential clientele. This would be a shame as this is a well written and thought provoking book in which the author opens up very imaginatively incidents from Mary's life - from her fear of unwed pregnancy, living as a refugee, coping with an enigmatic son, his barbaric death, to joyous resurrection and the assurance of Pentecost.

The reader is drawn into the author's own experiences of family life, and how a deeper awareness of how Mary coped helped her in her role as mother.

Each of the 10 chapters includes thoughts to ponder, reflection and application, and ways to imitate Mary's virtues to enhance the upbringing of children. This is a very worthwhile book for young mothers especially, but also of value to all - Catholic and non-Catholic - who want to penetrate imaginatively the example of the mother of God's Son.
