Called to Happiness

Where Faith and Psychology Meet

by Sidney Callahan

Price: £12.99
Publisher:Orbis Books from Alban Books
Published:November 2012
This new book of Sidney Callahanís, subtitled Where Faith and Psychology Meet, is the most recent among a plethora of self-help guides to happiness, of which several hundred are published every year. Callahan first looks at the definition of happiness made by psychologists, social scientists and theologians and then looks at several self-help programs. Callahan is herself a Christian and there are interesting chapters on God and happiness. She believes, and argues persuasively, that God wants us to be happy in this life, and that, in spite of the pessimists and cynics, happiness is possible this side of heaven. Her style is smooth and reader-friendly but nevertheless full of meaning. It is a book that would be even more rewarding after a second reading.
