Advent, Christmas and Epiphany
Stories and Reflections on the Daily Readings
by Megan McKenna
Together Advent, Christmas and Epiphany – Stories and Reflections on the Daily Readings and Advent, Christmas and Epiphany – Stories and Reflections on the Sunday Readings are companion volumes, based on the Catholic Lectionary. They offer commentaries on the readings of the day, stories and prayers, from five to nine or ten pages. There is plenty, therefore, for Clergy preparing Services or for others to deepen their knowledge of scripture, the seasons celebrated and the feasts within the seasons.
While intended primarily for the North American market (Our Lady of Guadalupe is included), St Thomas Becket does get mentioned on 29 December. On 1 January, there are Masses for both 'Mary, Mother of God', and ’Peace in the World'.
The same useful 'Introduction' is used in both volumes - but the icon of 'Our Lady of the New Advent' does not appear on the cover of either book (p. xi and p. x respectively) which is a pity and a publisher's lapse.
These are excellent resources and aids to help us focus on the religious - the real - importance of these seasons.
