The Pilgrimís Progress in Colour
by John Bunyan with colouring by Jim Thornton
Publisher:Church Home Group Resources Ltd
The Pilgrimís Progress in Colour...only it isnít Ė in colour that is, or not in the usual sense!
The Pilgrimís Progress in Colour is a glorious re-telling of the original story introducing modern terms and expressions yet retaining the feel of the original. Yes, colourful!
Most Ďeveryoneí has heard of John Bunyanís classic but a surprising number of people have not read it for themselves, let alone the sequel and John Bunyanís many other works. The title The Pilgrims Progress from This World to That Which Is To Come Delivered Under the Similitude of a Dream Wherein is Discovered The Manner of His Setting Out, His Dangerous Journey, And Safe Arrival At the Desired Country is enough to put anybody off these days. Bunyan was not well educated and the original was full of mistakes and inconsistencies though more recent editions have been made considerably more readable.
Nevertheless The Pilgrimís Progress in Colour is a very welcome addition to these editions. It reads with the same Ďfeelí as the original, indeed it includes direct quotes in italics and Bible quotations in bold type both in their original context. I read through from beginning to end, and was able to profit from Bunyanís teaching in a way that I would have missed if I had laboured through the original.
Excellent. I cannot praise it too highly. Recommended as suitable for group use too.
