Good to Great in God's Eyes
10 Practices Great Christians Have in Common
by Chip Ingram
Publisher:Baker Books imprint of Baker Pub. from Lion
As a reviewer, I feared the worst when I read the back cover of this book which says: "Do you long for a spiritual breakthrough? Then this book is for you." We have all read books which promise amazing results through highly prescriptive methods. Fortunately this book is not one of those. On the contrary, whilst recommending new ways of doing things, the author specifically says that this is not a ten-step plan to gain God's favour or to impress other people. He guides us through ten new ways of thinking and doing which may move us on from being "good Christians" to "great" ones. As he puts it: "Good Christians 'live the life'; great Christians 'leave a legacy'". He uses many examples from his own long ministry and from the lives of others to demonstrate his ten practices which include reading great books, taking great risks, enjoying great moments and empowering great people. This book is down to earth, not super-spiritual, it presents challenging but realistic goals and above all it does this with a lightness of touch which will encourage the reader to try these practices rather than collapse under a pile of guilt and self-condemnation. Above all this book demonstrates the warm heart, pastoral sensitivity and common sense of a man who has spent many years in Christian service. I guarantee that you will be encouraged and uplifted by this book.
