Their power and purpose in your spiritual life
by Russ Parker
Publisher:SPCK (Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge)
Everywhere you look people are talking about dreams, from the musical Les Miserables (and Susan Boyle's hit performance on Britain's Got Talent) to the life coaching industry to the stall holders at psychic fairs to psychologists and counsellors. With so many voices it is easy to get confused by what we mean by a dream, as people challenge us to "dream big dreams" of where we can go in the future, and to forget that dreaming is a natural occurrence that we do most, if not every night. Most nights we dream without remembering either that we dreamed or what the dream was about, but some mornings we awake with the dream at the front of our mind. These dreams can haunt us during the day as we try to work out what they mean. It is these types of dreams that Russ Parker speaks into.
In Healing Dreams Russ Parker takes us through the various types of dreams mentioned in the Bible, opening up the depth of meaning of the word dream found in the Hebrew language. He then majors on the non-prophetic type of dream where we are talking to ourselves and trying to make sense of something in our lives, thereby taking dreams out of the hands of Freudian and Jungian therapists and making them accessible to everybody. Russ Parker guides the reader through simple steps to be able to understand their dream in order to resolve inner conflict and bring understanding concerning the dream. While many people are too embarrassed to speak about their dreams this is a book that should be on the shelf of every church leader, counsellor and pastoral care worker.
