Walking in the Dust of the Rabbi

by Joseph Gisbey

This book grabbed my attention from the opening sentence. Joseph writes 'This is a book about what I believe it means to follow Jesus, to really be a disciple'. But it is not the usual sort of 'discipleship' book. The author has thoroughly researched the world and culture in which Jesus lived and the way in which He lived out His life as a rabbi in that world. There are fascinating insights into the Greek worldview followed by a chapter each on the beliefs and lifestyle of the Sadducees, the Essenes, the Zealots and the Pharisees. In the concluding chapters we are faced with the challenge of following Jesus - of becoming 'like Him' - within our own cultures. I warmly recommend this book.
