There is no shortage of Bible Atlases on the market, but A Visual Guide to Gospel Events is not one of them. Whilst there are plenty of illustrations and maps, the book seeks to provide more than a factual background and there is discussion on the implications of locations for the telling of the gospel story. So it is that the strap-line promises not only a guide to events but: "fascinating insights into where they happened and why".
This book, therefore, seeks to provide the background knowledge to the gospels which the original writers assumed their readers had. As such, it is an important interpretative tool and will help to illuminate familiar stories and parables in new ways.
The book is richly illustrated, and is an easy read. Rather than an atlas, it is better to think of this as an illustrated popular commentary from an evangelical perspective.
